Bob Hayes
I bet you all didn't know that we have a instructor at the "K" Club Academy that has a huge responsibility at Christmas time. This person is Bob Hayes (aka Jimmy Buffet). Bob Hayes has a huge heart and a love to decorate at Christmas. Why does he have such a huge responsibility? Because he lives on the famous "Dovewood Court" in Orangevale. Bob and his family have been decorating their home for over 11 years for families that come from all over in the Sacramento area. I'm sure a lot of you have once seen the beautiful display of Christmas lights at one time. Boy......can't image how much fun it is to live on that street! Can you imagine Bob's electric bill! This Saturday, December 4th is opening day for Dovewood Court so stop on by after your lesson at the "K" Club. Make sure you wave to Bob if you see him out there putting his last minute touches to the Jimmy Buffet Christmas Island. Also, don't forget to bring a can food item to donate to the Food for Families Charity. Thank you Bob for bringing so much joy to so many families!
Dovewood Court History:
The tradition was started by two neighbors, Fran and Dick. It began in 1982 with a single string of lights. As Fran and Dick continued to one-up each other, their respective displays grew. Over the years, friendly competition shaped the court into the spectacle that it is today. By 1986 every home on the court was brightly lit and lasting friendships were formed.
In 1981 the neighborhood decided to begin supporting the Food for Families Charity. Each year the food collection bins are filled with a average of eight tons of food. 100% of all food and money collected directly benefits local area food banks.
Over the years, there have been many special events and visitors to the court. They have had marching bands, car and motorcycle clubs, fire trucks and various other musicians have graced the court. Residents have even overheard a few marriage proposals. Tradition runs deep; they often hear people telling their children that their parents used to also bring them to see the lights at Dovewood Court.
